The marimba is a type of percussion instrument which is played by
striking wooden bars with a mallet. It is known for its warm, gentle
sound, characteristic to wooden bars. Below the bars are metal tubes
which produce resonance. They come in varying lengths according to the
bar's pitch. These resonators amplify the bars' sound, giving the music
depth. The marimba has a broader tonal range than any other percussion
instrument, and can play melodies and chords, meaning it is often used
for solo performances-Canon
